Amit Mishra Recalls Gambhir-Kohli Feud in IPL 2023
Former Indian spinner Amit Mishra opened up about the much-publicized feud between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir during the IPL 2023. In a recent interaction, Mishra provided insights into the epic face-off and how the two cricket stalwarts eventually moved past their differences.
The Epic Face-Off
The incident took place during a match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at LSG’s home ground. After the game, Kohli took a jibe at LSG players Naveen-ul-Haq and Kyle Mayers, which did not sit well with LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir. This led to a heated exchange between Kohli and Gambhir, with both coming face-to-face before being separated by others.
Gambhir’s Gesture of Reconciliation
Despite the on-field tension, the feud was resolved peacefully in IPL 2024. Amit Mishra, who has been with the LSG camp since the franchise’s inception in 2022, revealed that it was Gambhir who took the initiative to end the feud. Speaking on YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra’s show, Amit Mishra shared, “I saw a good thing about Gautam. Virat Kohli didn’t go towards him, Gautam went towards him. He went and asked, ‘How are you, how’s your family.’ So it was Gautam who ended the feud and not Kohli.”
Gambhir’s Big Heart
Mishra further elaborated on Gambhir’s gesture, saying, “Gautam showed his big heart at that time. It should have been Kohli who should have gone and ended the feud. He should have gone and said ‘Gauti bhai, let’s end this’.” This act of reconciliation by Gambhir highlighted his maturity and willingness to move past their differences.
A History of Tensions
This was not the first time Gambhir and Kohli had a public spat. The two were involved in a similar heated exchange during IPL 2013 when Kohli was the captain of RCB and Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Despite their past altercations, they managed to play together for India, showcasing their professionalism.
Moving Forward
In IPL 2024, the duo once again patched things up, with Gambhir mentoring KKR and Kohli remaining a key player for the rebranded Royal Challengers Bengaluru (formerly RCB). The reconciliation between Gambhir and Kohli sets a positive example for sportsmanship and the ability to move past personal conflicts for the greater good of the sport.
New Roles in Indian Cricket
Looking ahead, Gambhir and Kohli will now work together in the Indian team, with Gambhir taking over as India’s head coach, replacing Rahul Dravid. He will hold the position until the 2027 ODI World Cup, providing an opportunity for the two to collaborate and contribute to Indian cricket’s success.(cricket betting tips)
